About the Company
Pretendtious Theatre explores contemporary themes and relationships through the use of music, comedy, and dance. They shed light on difficult topics using a light hearted approach with which audiences can identify.
Joseph Burdi is a Toronto-based Director, Devisor, Dramaturge and Theatre Artist. He looks to make work that is inspired by the events of the world as he sees them, full of risk, and created from the principles and values of queerness. Past credits include director for Midnight Rubes at Social Capital Theatre as part of The Inaugural Short Short Play Festival and Chaperone Blues and A Nondenominational Holiday Party for the Lonely at Unit 102 as part of Operation 24, dramaturge for The Ashley Plays (2017), Telling Tales Out of School (2016-17), Lost City of Alanis, and And Everything in Between & Devisor or Carrying and Cerebral Complex. He is happy to be taking the journey with CAST! and hopes that the catchy tunes will be stuck in your head as they have been in his for the year.
Chelsea Driver is excited to be working with Pretendtious Theatre on CAST! The Musical as the scenic designer. She is delighted to be working for the first time on York University’s Devised Theatre Festival, and is thankful to Daniel Lord for this opportunity. She hopes you enjoy the show!
Luc Gaylie was raised in Mississauga Ontario and he has been playing music since he can remember. He has performed in venues across Europe, the United States, and Canada. As well as featured on television for Canada AM, Breakfast Television and CBC’s Hockey Night in Canada. He has enjoyed working with Pretendtious Theatre and would like to thank: Ali Watt, Dan Lord, Joseoh Burdi, Nikki Vigneault and Francesca Soni; as well as his parents and twin sister for all the love and support.
Daniel is excited to be a part of a devised piece that explores the lives of art students within a “Broadway” style. He is thankful for the opportunity to share his musical background and love of performance arts.
Francesca Smita Soni is a third year double major student (Devised Theatre and English). She is very enthusiastic about stage managing Pretendtious for the 4DT festival this year. Credits: lighting crew for Hamletmachine, director for 2DT show and 3DT show. Francesca really loves devised theatre because of the endless possibilities and ways that one can create theatre with different mediums.
Nikki Vigneault is a 4th year production student focusing on lighting design and stage management. She has been a lighting designer for several York Dance shows and DTF will be her first time designing a theatre show. Nikki has also worked as head of Makeup and Dressing on Theatre@York’s production of Cloud 9 and is the production manager at Calithumpian’s Outdoor Summer Theatre.
With the upcoming completion of her Devised Theatre undergrad program, she is grateful for the experience, resources and skills obtained through her journey as an artist. CAST! The Musical is her debut play as both writer and performer. She extends her gratitude to those who offered guidance, support and inspiration throughout her undergrad career at York.
